PowerOLAP Client Installation for Non-Admin Users

The Security feature of Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista or Windows 7 sets restrictions to what it allows applications to do specifically when the applications make some changes to the workstation.

Outlined below are the steps to be followed in the installation of the PowerOLAP® client for Non-Administrator users.

 Important
If the Windows user is not a local Administrator, make that windows user an administrator temporarily until you have completed the steps indicated below:
(This can be done by making the user a member of the Local Administrator group.)

 

To begin, Install PowerOLAP® client software:

1.   Locate the installation file for PowerOLAP, right click and select Run as administrator.

2.   Follow the instructions in the InstallShield Wizard to finish installation.

3.   Launch PowerOLAP from Start menu and select Run as administrator.

This will display the Default Configuration dialog box.
The first time that PowerOLAP® is launched, this dialog will prompt user to register the application by choosing between a Reader/Writer code license or via a PowerOLAP license.

4.   Select whether you want to register the PowerOLAP application via a Reader/Writer Code license or a PowerOLAP® License by ticking the corresponding option.

Next step is to register the PowerOLAP license.

 

Register via PowerOLAP® License:

If you choose to register via a PowerOLAP license:

1.   In the License Codes dialog box that appears, enter a valid <License ID> and <password> provided by PARIS Technologies.

2.   Click OK.
The Create New License dialog box appears next which will require you to fill out some information.

3.   Completely fill out the form then click the Submit button.
This completes the PowerOLAP® software installation and registration.

 

Register via Reader/Writer Code:

If you choose to register via a Reader/Writer code:

1.   In the Licensing Code dialog box that appears, enter a valid <License ID> and <Code> provided by PARIS Technologies.

2.   Click OK.
The Create New License dialog box appears next which will require you to fill out some information.

3.   Completely fill out the form then click the Submit button.
After a moment, the License Codes dialog will appear and PARIS Technologies will send a License ID and Password via e-mail. This e-mail will be the one you have indicated in the form you have just submitted.

4.   In the License Codes dialog box, enter the <License ID> and <Password> e-mailed by PARIS Technologies.

5.   Click OK.

This completes the PowerOLAP® software installation and registration.

Note: You may also go to PowerOLAP ribbon, Home Tab then under Edit control group select the Options command and Licensing Tab in order to license your software.

When you have successfully registered your license proceed to the steps for adding a PowerOLAP Server.

 

Add a PowerOLAP® Server:

1.   From the PowerOLAP ribbon, select File icon and select the PowerOLAP Server command.
This will bring up the Add Server dialog box.

2.   Type the <server name> or < IPAddress> of the server to be added, then click Add button.

3.   Click OK.

 

Next, create a slice to Excel:

 Important
Make sure that this is an instance of PowerOLAP® that is “Run as administrator”. In other words, make sure to open the PowerOLAP® application as an administrator the first time you create a slice to excel.

1.   Open any database in PowerOLAP.(File icon→Open Database command).

2.   Open a slice and slice to excel (or hit F8).

 

Once the procedure above has been successfully done, the Windows user can now be removed from the Local Administrators group and PowerOLAP® can be run normally.
